Chairmans Message

Chairman's Message

As the child grows older, the responsibility of a parent increases. It’s hard to say where parenting ends and friendship begins. Can a parent be a friend??? Is it okay for a parent to turn their child into a pseudo adult companion???

Parents play an emotional as well as a functional role in their children’s lives. “When they are younger, the emotional role is far more observable, but as children get older, it’s necessary for parents to take on a functional role without of course sidelining the emotional role”.

The functional role of a parent increases as the child grows. So for a baby, it would call for feeding, changing diapers and baby-proofing the house, when the child goes to school, it involves getting him to do his homework, making him study for test, meeting his teachers etc.

Chairman of Rockford School

One of the biggest mistakes parents make trying to be their children’s friend is not emphasizing with them but supporting them when the school sends home report of the child’s misbehavior as well as discussing adult issues.

When any child speaks that a teacher is bad or biased parent never discouraged him from blaming them. But they blame the teacher for his poor performance and bad behavior. By the time he/she goes to college, he stops respecting any authority, including his father and the consequences are evident in most of the families. If the parents try to correct them, it doesn’t work. It will be too late and they blame their parents.

Dear parents, you know your child well but we know our children more than you. Boundaries must be set and lines must be drawn to develop responsible friendship with your child because that also involves being a responsible parent.
